Police are looking for anyone who witnessed the head-on collision that killed 71-year-old Willie Mae Lewis in Ypsilanti Township Wednesday night.
Investigators with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office believe there was possibly a third car traveling on North Hewitt Road at the same time as the crash. The third car wasn't involved in the crash, but police said whoever was in the car may be able to provide information about the accident, they said in a release.
Police are not sure about the make of the third car, but said it was some kind of sedan.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. when Lewis's Pontiac crossed the center line and hit a Jeep being driven by a 23-year-old Jackson man head on, according to police. Lewis, of Ypsilanti Township was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jackson man was taken to the hospital with head injuries. Police said there was no update available about the man's condition, but the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Anyone who was in the area or who might have information regarding the crash is asked to contact Traffic Services Deputy McMullen at (734) 260-1982.
