A 57-year-old Ypsilanti man was arrested after police say he broke into a catering company and fought with an employee while attempting to rob the business early Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to a business in downtown Ypsilanti at 12:26 a.m. after receiving reports of a breaking and entering and assault, said Sgt. Brent Yuchasz.
The business, Angel Food Catering located at 6 W. Michigan Ave., was closed, but a 22-year-old Plymouth man was still inside working when the attempted robbery took place.
“The suspect broke in and there was a physical altercation," Yuchasz said.
After fist-fighting with the employee, the suspect fled the scene. The Plymouth man called police and provided a description of the suspect to officers when they arrived.
Nothing was stolen from the business, police said.
Officers arrested the 57-year-old three blocks away during a check of the area, Yuchasz said. The man was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will likely be charged with breaking and entering and attempted strong-arm robbery.
He is expected to be arraigned on charges Wednesday.
